Ensemble intercontemporain, Conductor Pascal Rophé

The Ensemble intercontemporain initiates a workshop-trampoline for eight composers: the work carried out in close relation with the virtuoso soloists in the group, conducted by Pascal Rophé, creates a privileged relationship for young artists.

Length of the work presented: 8—10 minutes

Public workshop to present the composers selected by the educational team:
June 28, 2012

Students must choose all or a part of the instrumental effective (minimum eight musicians), with the exclusion of all concertant works.

Available Instruments:
1 flute (also plays the piccolo and the alto flute: only two instruments), 1 oboe (also plays the English horn), 1 clarinet in Bb (also plays the clarinet in mib and bass: only two instruments), 1 horn, 1 trumpet (in C and Bb), 1 trombone (tenor and bass), 1 percussionist (see instrument list below) / 1 harp / 1 violin, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 bass (4 or 5 strings)

Available Percussion Instruments:
1 marimba 4 and 1/2 octaves (F2 – C7), 1 xylophone 4 octaves (C4 – C8), 1 vibra 3 octaves (F3 – F6), 1 pedal glockenspiel 3 octaves (F5 – E8), 6 tom toms, 1 pair of bongos, 1 symphonic bass drum, 6 cymbals, 3 tam tams (high, medium, and low (85cm diameter), 1 snare drum, 1 set of blocks (5 heights)

Applicants also have the possibility to request various accessories (triangle, tambourine, claves, maracas, etc.). The Eic must validate these accessoires.

Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France

Among the eight composers selected for the workshop given by the Ensemble intercontemporain, four will be chosen to present an additional sketch for orchestra that will be read by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France during acanthes@ircam 2012. These readings will lead to a commission for certain composers for the 2013 edition.

Length of the work presented: 6—8 minutes

Students can choose all or a part of the instruments, excluding concerant works. In the event that the string instruments are divided, they should not write more than two parts per pulpit.

2 flutes, 2 oboes (one can play the English horn), 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 timpani player, 2 percussionists, 1 harp, 1 celesta, strings 8/6/5/4/3

The set is the choice of the composers with the accord of the directors of the academy and the orchestra.
